Wednesday rant: How is reducing the EV grant going to save the planet?

At last it appears that the world governments in general have come around to the Greta Thunberg way of thinking. Agreeing with her mission to achieve zero emissions is one thing but making it happen is another.

Today’s budget highlights this. When Electric Vehicles (EV) were first making waves the UK Government provide a cash grant of £5,000 to incentivise sales. Today this has been reduced to £3,000 (down £500 from last years rate of £3,500) and only for cars priced under £50k.

How can reducing an incentive help achieve zero emissions especially as many of the pure electric cars available to purchase are priced higher than £50k?

At this early stage of EV adoption a generous government grant payment, rather than one on the slide, is essential. There’s even talk that the government should drop VAT on EV’s. Putting both these incentives together would really make a different. Come on Boris let’s really make this happen!
