Pack away that Golf umbrella!
It was along time coming but the guys at Volkswagen have finally unveiled the worlds first-ever Golf GTI Cabriolet. Leaving the price to one side (ehem £30,000), we think that the GTI has got to be one of the nicest hot hatches available, so the open top version should turn even more heads!
Unfortunately, its not all good news. To get the DSG version, which we believe is the best one, youll have to fork out over a whopping £30,600. Looking at the pictures many would argue that its not a stunner. However, will buyers really want to pay over £30K for a Golf?
Ok, lets look at the facts, the cabrio gets the same engine as the hatch, so youll be able to get from 0-62mph in just just over 7 seconds. Youll also be able to reach a top speed of 147mph - not bad at all. Whats most impressive however is the fuel consumption. the economy figures are encouraging at just less than 38mpg meaning owners will spend more time on the road and less at the pumps.
Our verdict - impressive in a lot of areas but not a lot of car for £30k.
