3 Top budget sports cars
We reckon these are the ultimate cheap second hand sports cars. Introducing the Mazda RX8 (£23k when new), the Porsche Boxster S (£40k when new) and the BMW Z4 (£33k when new).
You can now find these cars on DesperateSeller.co.uk for under £6k, considerably less in some case. We're not talking about poverty spec machines that have been to the moon and back, what were talking about are properly maintained cars that you can use every day.
1999 Porsche Boxster S
If badges are your thing then look no further because buying a Boxster gets you a car with proper supercar feel. Introduced in 1996 early Boxsters had a 2.5 litre engine but 3 years later Porsche offered a more powerful 2.7 litre engine and the top of the range Boxster S version. The Boxster S had 3.2 litres and kicked out 252 bhp, thats a lot for just £5k!
For £5k you're probably looking at a car thats done about 80k miles but you shouldn't be concerned. A well maintained Porsche can easily go over 100k miles without needing any bits replaced. When you drive one you'll find that the engine still feels strong though the interior will look past its sell by date. However, this should by no means detract you from buying one.
2005 BMW Z4
If you prefer to have the engine up front then you should take a look at a BMW Z4. The Z4 feels like it's just going to go on forever, it's a car you can do a lot of miles in. It's smooth, quite and very refined even compared to the Boxster.
The build quality is second to none, its simple, classic, elegant and as for the interior it leaves the Porsche wanting. The Z4 was introduced in 2003 offering the choice of 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 litre engines. If you're going to pick one then you should definitely choose the 3.0 litre. It's got a phenomenally smooth straight six engine and probably one of the best engines ever made at that time.
2005 Mazda RX8
Our final car is a less obvious choice, it's the Mazda RX8 which first appeared on our roads in 2003. You couldn't miss it as it was unlike any other sports car before. It's got four seats and four doors all wrapped up in a weird reptilian-like bodywork.
The cars defining feature is under the bonnet where it uses a rotary engine. The rotary engine is a type of internal combustion engine that doesn't use conventional cylinders. This means that it's very free-revving and gives fantastic performance for the size of the engine. The only downside however is that they drink a lot of oil and are very petrol hungry. By anyones standards the Mazda RX8 is a great little sports car. At the time of writing, an RX8 with 70k on the clock could be yours for as little as £1500.
What wed go for
In conclusion, what we have is three great cars all with a compelling argument for buying them but which one should you pick? Well if you're looking for the best sport cars, it's got to be the Boxster. If you're looking for a car you can live with every day then you'd go for the Z4. However, if it was our choice then wed go for the RX8 as it's more enjoyable and gives a great drive you'd also have a lot more cash left in your pocket if you bought it.
