The most secure used cars on the market
With no signs of economic recovery coming any time soon experts say car thefts are on the increase. It’s not just older cars that are being targeted either as thieves try to foil ever-more ingenious car security.
Back in the day any thief armed with a screwdriver and a small drop of mechanical knowledge could steal a motor in seconds. The team at DS towers were frightened to discover that it now takes a car thief less than 20 seconds, on average, to take away your prized 4-wheel possession. For some models the average was more towards 10 seconds!
It’s no surprise therefore that more and more car manufacturers are now putting security features at the forefront of car design in order to help make their cars more secure and therefore helping to reduce vehicle crime. It’s these features that can see insurance premiums reduce and make cars more appealing to car buyers.
There are various awards ceremonies held each year which pay homage to such car manufacturers so we thought we’d show you the list of winners so you know what to look out for if you’re in the market for a used car.
Without doubt the most coveted manufacturer is Volkswagen with a large majority of it models making the top three across a range of categories. Volkswagen is certainly no stranger to the car-security arena having been awarded the most-secure cars for the third year in a row. Here’s our pick of the winners
•City Car/Supermini: Audi A1
•Small Family Car: Volkswagen Beetle
•Family Car: Citroen C5 Exclusive
•Compact Executive Car: Audi A4 [pictured]
•Compact MPV: Citroen C4 Picasso Exclusive
•Large MPV: Volkswagen Sharan
•Open-top Car: Audi A5 Cabriolet
•Performance Car: Audi A8 W12 Quattro

•Large 4×4 (Recreational): Toyota Land Cruiser V8

In amongst the winners were the VW Beetle, Audis A5 Cabriolet and Toyota’s Land Cruiser V8. However, it’s only really VW that can really be named the king of security as they were crowned overall Manufacturer of the Year in the car section for the third year on the spin. What is a surprise to us was that there was no mention of some of the best selling cars such as the Ford Focus or the Vauxhall Astra. BMW and Mercedes were also ominous by their very absence.
