2021 Peugeot 3008 reviewed
When it first appeared, the Peugeot 3008 was a worthy and impressive contender in a competitive segment. And now the 2021 version has improved on what is an excellent family car. Indeed, the interior, the build quality and the overall design have been boosted and it is no understatement to say that the 3008 really does take on premium and pricier rivals.
However, the Peugeot 3008 is competing as a quality family transport with the likes of the Seat Ateca, the Nissan Qashqai and the Volkswagen Tiguan. And while those are very good cars, the 3008 really does offer an impressive alternative. Range of diesel and petrol engines. Peugeot offers its SUV with a range of diesel and petrol engines with a very useful 1.2-litre petrol unit producing 129bhp being among the best choices. It returns 48mpg and is a sound car for driving around town and is a nice cruising unit on the motorway too.
The 3008 also has the choice of a 1.6-litre petrol unit producing 179bhp to return 43mpg. It has an eight-speed automatic gearbox that makes for a rewarding driving experience. Peugeot has also created the Hybrid4 which is a plug-in hybrid with either one or two electric motors to deliver an electric range of up to 40 miles. The big difference between the two models is in performance and price.
3008 Hybrid4
The 3008 Hybrid4 uses the 1.6-litre petrol engine and a 13.2kWh battery and power is delivered using the firm's eight-speed automatic transmission. The dearer version, the one with two electric motors which sees one being placed on each axle, delivers a combined power output 260bhp so its 0 to 62 mph sprint time is just six seconds - that's quicker than a Peugeot 308 GTi hot hatch. However, for those wanting economy, the 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel engine producing 128bhp and returning 61mpg with emissions of 122g/km is a better choice. The 1.5-litre diesel unit is a good performer across a range of revs and a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel unit has been dropped after the revamp.
Peugeot 3008 is a very safe car
Along with a rewarding drive, the Peugeot 3008 is a very safe car with full marks being awarded by Euro NCAP for crash testing. Standard safety kit includes electronic stability control, tyre pressure warning, airbags and road sign recognition.
The 3008 also features autonomous emergency braking and a lane-departure warning system. While rivals may have better handling, the Peugeot 3008 offers a good stance on the road and high comfort levels. It's a great choice for families with lots of space in the cabin, particularly for those sat in the rear seats, and one of the largest boots in his class at 520 litres.
