A few things to know about the face lifted 2020 Audi Q5

The Q5 is undoubtedly Audi’s most successful SUV. It’s recently undergone a facelift to keep up with rivals such as the Mercedes Benz GLC and BMW X3.

At first glance it may be hard to pick out the changes as they’re so subtle. However, if you take a really close look then you’ll see that there’s new exterior changes such as new headlights, a slimmer grille, a tweaked boot-lid and two new colours.

Look inside and you’ll see that the cabin has been treated to Audi’s latest MMI infotainment system but, unlike the Q7 for example, there’s no dual-level twin-screen setup. Instead you get the floating 10.1 inch central touchscreen and physical climate controls below. In our opinion this setup is actually far easier to use and that Audi could have actually kept things even simpler by leaving in the familiar rotary dial controller on the central console. But what do we know? Aside from this the equipment levels are better than ever. There’s MMI Navigation Plus, Audi Connect and Audi Virtual Cockpit standard on all UK cars. As for the Q5’s engines all of them now get mild-hybrid technology. This means that there’s a 12 volt subsystem for the four cylinder variants and a 47 volt unit for the six-cylinder cars. As you’d expect this equates to better fuel economy and lower emissions. We’re pleased to say that there’s also more power on offer across the range. The 40TDI version sees a 14 bhp (brake horse power) increase to 204 bhp, while the 45 TFSI goes from 245 bhp to 265 bhp. Both variants come in Quattro four-wheel-drive and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard. A revised TFSIe plug-in hybrid and diesel SQ5 are also due out later in the year.

Orders for the facelifted Q5 open this month (July 2020), with first deliveries coming in September. Prices will start at just under £43,000 for the 40 TDI Sport model.
