Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate wins Best Used Car of the Year award
The 2017 model Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate has won the prestigious Best Used Car of the Year title at the 2019 What Car? Used Car of the Year awards.
Praising its innovative technology, interior comfort, efficient engines and low running costs, What Car? editor, Steve Huntingford, said: “When judging the estate category, practicality was foremost in our judges’ minds, but what lent the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate the win was how much more it offers.”
In what turned out to be a great night for the German manufacturer, the 2014 model S-Class was named Best Used Luxury Car of the Year and the 2017-2018 E 350 e was shortlisted in the Best Used Green Car for less than £40,000 category.
Good news kept on coming for Merc, with Auto Trader announcing that the diesel manual 2015 GLA was the UK’s fastest-selling used car in September, taking just 15 days on average to race off forecourts.
Despite the ongoing demonisation of traditional fuels – a cross-party group of MPs this week demanded an outright ban on the sale of all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2032 – diesels topped the best-seller lists in 10 of the 13 regions tracked.
Popular models included the 2016 diesel manual Mercedes-Benz A-Class, 2017 diesel manual Nissan Qashqai and 2015 diesel manual Hyundai ix35.
“With the autumn and winter months closing in, it’s no surprise to see that SUVs are topping the list,” said Auto Trader’s director of commercial products, Karolina Edwards-Smajda.
“More surprising perhaps, given the huge decline in the new market, is the ongoing resilience of used diesels. As we’ve seen elsewhere on our marketplace, they’re also retaining their value.
“That’s because for many motorists they are simply the best option available – particularly those that drive long distances and are looking for efficiency.”
