Summertime driving checks

As summer approaches, MyCarCheck.com have put together a quick guide on some of the checks you should do while driving in hot weather conditions.

Summertime
Even though the weather is not as harsh as winter conditions. Even the relatively modest UK summer temperatures can cause our cars to overheat.

Check coolant levels
During the summer engine coolant is needed to keep the engine cool and the components running smoothly. If it is not maintained correctly the engine can be damaged. However if regular service is carried on time the coolant fluid levels should remain at the correct level. Therefore, if it starts to drop you should get it checked out or make sure it is corrected to the right level.

Cooling fan
The cooling fan is specifically designed to prevent the engine from overheating. If the fan stops working it will damage the engine and cause it to overheat. To test if the cooling fan is working correctly simply turn the car heater on to cold Then run the car until the temperature level reaches the halfway point. Keep the engine running for a short while and this should then activate the fan automatically.

Air Conditioning
Turn on the air conditioning while driving. If it does not cool the inside of the car then it means either a recharge is needed or there might be a leakage which is letting the air con gas out. You should ring your local garage and see if they service the air conditioning or refill the gas to get the problem solved.

Summer tyres are optional so it is really up to you if you want to change your regular tyres. If you decide to change them, we have listed some advantages of having them.
