Spotlight: 2006 - 2010 BMW 3 Series
In the field of entry level luxury saloons the 2006 to 2010 BMW 3 Series runs ahead of the pack. When it comes to performing it’s anything but entry level.
Today our used car spotlight features the 2006 to 2010 BMW 3 Series saloon, an almost perfect car that consistently out performs the competition.
There was a complete redesign of both the saloon and estate versions in 2006 to a bigger platform with better performance. In 2007 the 325i became the 328i and the 330i became the 335i to highlight and enhance all the improvements in engine and bhp. To top it all off in 2008 BMW introduced the super-efficient turbo charged diesel. However, what hasn’t change is the comparative high price it will cost you to own one.
Although the 3 Series may be a little bit pricey BMW does make it worth your while with standard features that come in both the 325i and the 328i. These include features such as the power moon roof, duel climate control and a 10 speaker audio system with CD player. BMW also improved the interior with much larger back seats – much needed from the earlier version.
3 Series saloons and estates come equipped with a 3.0L in-line six engine. The 325i from 2006 will give you a commendable 215 bhp where the higher performance 330i will give you 255 bhp. By 2007 the 328i and the 335i were introduced which put out 230 bhp and 300 bhp respectively. The 335i was fitted with a twin-turbo charger which will get you from a standstill to 60 in under five seconds making it one potent piece of machinery! The 335i is efficient too where you can expect to achieve 17 mpg in and around town while providing you with 26 mpg on the motorway. The less powerful 328i will get you 19 mpg around town and 28 mpg on the motorway. The diesel model (as shown) will get you 23 mpg in town and 36 mpg on the motorway.
So, everything sounds great so far however, there have been consumer complaints about the 335i’s high pressure fuel pump failing which means that you could expect a lot of repairs and maintenance with this car. Even taking this into consideration the BMW 3 Series still outruns the competition where the only contender that comes close is Audi A4.
If ever there was a benchmark luxury saloon then the 3 Series is definitely it. Why not take a look at some of our 2008 BMW 3 Series cars for sale.
