Spotlight: 2005 - 2008 Audi A4 Avant
Since its introduction in the mid 1990’s the Audi A4 Avant has impressed many owners with its combination of sure-footed handling and nicely appointed cabin. The 3rd generation A4 Avant that went on sale in the middle of 2005 was certainly no exception.
The A4 Avant is as much a well rounded luxury compact car as it is a budget friendly option to higher priced entry level competition. The 3rd generation A4 Avant is a complete remake which includes a new engine line-up. Size-wise it maintains all its previous overall dimensions but the styling has a softer A6 profile. To avoid confusion with older 2005 models midyear editions have a 2005 and a half year designation. To steer clear of any mix-up you may want to look at the 2006 and later models.
One of the greatest things about the 2005 – 2008 A4 Avant is that the interior is much nicer than the previous A4 Avant. Overall the interior is really impressive, there are plenty of high quality materials and even though it’s a few years old this is what buyers come to expect when looking to buy a modern Audi. There are a plethora of power options and accessories and comfort levels for both driver and passengers are superb. For example, you’ll find the 8-way power seats are extremely supportive and between the leather seats and the leather accents it really cinches the upscale appearance. Before 2007 a 12-way power seat was the norm even on the 2.0T entry level models. The same year the 3.2 model added a power sunroof and an MP3 compatible CD player. If music is your thing then we suggest looking out for models with the premium Bose audio upgrade.
Young families should certainly consider the Avant for its extra room. Even with 4 passengers the acceleration is quick and smooth thanks to the direct fuel injection system. As the A4 Avant has Audi’s impressive Quattro All Wheel drive system the car always seems fully planted on the road.
If you’re looking for savings at the pump then go for the 2.0 ltr model with manual transmission as these will get you approximately 20mpg in the city and 31mpg on the motorway. If you’re looking for something more powerful then we suggest the V6 automatic with Quattro All Wheel drive. However, this will hugely affect mpg dropping to 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the motorway.
Refined and sporty, the A4 Avant is certainly a spirited luxury car and a worthy alternative to the BMW 3 Series estate. Why not Click here to take a look at some Audi A4 Avant cars for sale?
